All the options to learn to ski in Grandvalira

Even if you haven’t been in the snow this season, there’s no doubt that the latest snowfall in mid-January is an invitation to consider a skiing break. Whether you’re an experienced skier and you want to improve your skills, or you’ve decided to learn to ski, Grandvalira offers different types of skiing and snowboarding courses and classes for all levels and ages.
Discover the different options in this article and make the most of your snow getaway.

Group classes to learn to ski

In Grandvalira you’ll find group classes to get you started in skiing, snowboarding or freeriding, or to improve your technique. Classes are divided into levels and are taught in up to 6 different languages, with a maximum of 12 people. Grandvalira has a large ski school with more than 600 professionals to learn to ski. If you have never been on a board before, it is important that you learn with an instructor who will help you get started, teach you the technique and the necessary routines to apply from the beginning.

Individual courses to learn to ski

If you prefer a more personalised experience, you can opt for private lessons for you and your companions (maximum 6 people). Ideally, you should all be of the same level to make the most of the course. The instructor will adapt exclusively to your level and you will be able to acquire the knowledge more quickly. You can book individual lessons whether you are a beginner or want to improve your level in skiing, snowboarding and freeriding.

Top Class to improve your skiing level

This modality is ideal for progressing as you will have an expert instructor at your disposal for 6 hours at a time who, as well as helping you to perfect your skiing, will take you to discover all the secrets of the ski resort. The service also offers correction videos and provides you with a VIP room and pick-up from your accommodation.

Ski programmes for the little ones

If you want to introduce the little ones to your favourite sport, the Grandvalira ski school offers several options so that they can have fun while they learn. To learn to ski, it offers themed circuits, courses and snow gardens. Children are grouped by levels and also by age groups. The youngest children, from 1 to 3 years old, also have their own space in the nursery where they will stay in an indoor area run by specialised resort staff.

Els Llacs + Grandvalira = super ski break

Once you’ve finished skiing, it’s time to rest. Stay overnight at Els Llacs and enjoy all the comfort of fully equipped mountain flats. In addition, you’ll have a ski storage room with camera surveillance so you don’t have to carry all your equipment back to the flat. You can also get on our transfer that will take you to the foot of the slopes without having to touch your own car.
At Els Llacs Mountain Apartments you can enjoy plenty of space whether you are travelling as a couple, with your group of friends or with your family. Our tourist flats offer options for up to 12 people.

If this season you are thinking of learning to ski in Andorra, book the Els Llacs flats with the ski pass to Grandvalira and become an experienced skier.

Discover what’s new in Grandvalira for the 2022-23 season

The slogan “What winter do you want to experience?” launches Grandvalira Resorts’ new winter season. In today’s post, we tell you all the news so that you’ll have everything ready for 2 December.

Grandvalira Resorts and the unique Andorra Pass ski pass

Grandvalira Resorts is born, a new brand that brings together all the resorts in the country: Grandvalira, Pal Arinsal and Ordino Arcalís. However, each of them retains its own features and distinguishing characteristics. With the new union, from this season onwards you will be able to ski all the slopes with a single ski pass. The Andorra Pass is the season ski pass to ski the more than 300 kilometres of Andorran slopes, and you can also do so with the multi-day ski pass.

New snow activities coming up

Grandvalira is planning new activities, one of which will be the creation of a giant ice and snow slide down which large doughnuts will slide. For the moment, the opening date has not been confirmed, although we already know the location, which will be in the Les Abelletes area in the Pas de la Casa sector. It will surely be a very fun activity, as we are used to from the resort.

Sports competitions calendar

Make a note of these dates and experience first-hand the great sporting events that will take place in Grandvalira during the 2022-23 winter season.

– Alpine skiing World Cup Finals

The Avet slopes in the Soldeu sector and Àliga in the El Tarter sector will host the finals of the men’s and women’s alpine skiing World Cup for the second time in their history. It will take place from 13 to 19 March 2022, just 5 minutes by car from the flats.

– KTM Cup Finals

The fastest skiers in the world will meet on the Riberal de Grau Roig piste on 29 and 30 March. Grandvalira has already hosted several competitions of this type and in 2017 the piste record was reached with 199.56 kilometres per hour.

– Freeride World Tour

Ordino Arcalís will once again host a Freeride competition from 30 January to 5 February in both men’s and women’s skiing and snowboarding. The junior competition will take place on the 5th and 6th.

Electronic music festival

Another event that could take place this winter on the Grandvalira snowfields is an electronic music festival coinciding with the dates of the Alpine skiing World Cup finals. We are awaiting confirmation of the event, but if there is a rumor there must be something to it.

Green light label: a commitment to renewable energies

The management company of the Soldeu and El Tarter sectors has been the first in the country to receive the “Llum Verda” (green light) seal awarded by the Andorran electricity company FEDA (Forces Electriques d’Andorra). With this certificate, the Soldeu and El Tarter sectors guarantee that the energy they consume is 100% of renewable origin.

Grandvalira hosts new European Alpine Ski Cup finals

This year major competitions are back in Grandvalira. In March we will once again vibrate with the European Alpine Skiing Cup Finals. So that you don’t miss a thing, we’ll tell you all the details.

The European Alpine Skiing Cup Finals

From 14 to 20 March the action is in Grandvalira, on the two World Cup slopes Avet in Soldeu and Àliga in El Tarter. So get ready to feel the thrills of the big events first hand. This is your chance to see Europe’s best skiers competing in Andorra.

In recent seasons, Grandvalira has already hosted other alpine skiing competitions such as World Cup events, European Cup events and will host the men’s and women’s World Cup finals in 2019. It is also the annual venue for the Kilometro Lanzado events on the Riberal de Grau Roig piste. And the Snow Park in the El Tarter sector has hosted high-level competitions such as the Total Fight Masters of Freestyle.

The World Cup slopes

The proximity of Els Llacs Mountain Apartments to these slopes makes them a good choice for attending the European Cup Alpine skiing finals. Located in Bordes de Envalira, the Avet piste in Soldeu is only 5 minutes away by car and 15 minutes from the Àliga piste in El Tarter.

– The Avet slope, in Soldeu

It is the first piste to obtain the homologation of the International Ski Federation (FIS). In 2008 Grandvalira hosted its first important European Cup event. It has two technical runs: the slalom and the Giant.

Thanks to its north-west orientation, it guarantees excellent snow quality. On the occasion of the 2019 World Cup finals, a 14,000 square metre ski platform was built to connect the piste with the village of Soldeu. This section, as well as allowing the arrival area to be extended by 100 metres, is where the grandstands for the competitions are located.

– The Àliga slope, in El Tarter

It hosted its first major event in 2014 with the men’s and women’s European Cup finals. It is the slope on which the speed events take place: downhill and super giant. It is 2.7 kilometres long, has a maximum gradient of 751 metres and its highest starting point is 2,476 metres above sea level. Thanks to these conditions, skiers can reach speeds of up to 120 km/h. Moreover, it is the slope that represents the X logo of Grandvalira.

The programme of the Europa Cup Finals 2022

The finals will take place from 14 to 20 March and will host a total of 4 events.

Skiing with children in Andorra

Ski resorts offer numerous options for skiing with children. At the same time as they learn, they have a great time with other children under the expert guidance of professional instructors. In Grandvalira you’ll find ski schools and snow gardens adapted to their level in almost all sectors, so that they can get started in this world or improve their technique.

First contact with the snow

For children from 3 to 6 years old, you will find snow gardens in the sectors of Grau Roig, Soldeu, Pas de la Casa, Canillo, El Tarter and Encamp. Here they will be able to discover the world of skiing or snowboarding, the latter only available in Pas de la Casa.

They start with an adaptation to the environment class and the course usually lasts about two hours in the snow garden itself. The rest of the time is spent playing in the snow or indoors. You can choose between a full day or half day.

Ski circuits for skiing with children

Grandvalira has the Kid Program, programmes and circuits for children from 3 to 11 years old with different themes. They combine skiing with other activities such as snowshoeing, igloo building, mini tobogganing or mini snowmobiles, among others, depending on the sector where the classes are held.

Your children will learn skiing techniques with specialised instructors together with other children of their level and age. They last all day and you can choose from 1 to 5 days (you will have to take into account the starting days of the classes as each sector has a different programme).

The resort also offers Top Class Kids from 3 years old, a totally personalised and adapted programme.

Group classes for children

Group ski lessons for 6 to 11 year olds are divided by level and can be either skiing or snowboarding. The classes are 3 hours long and the minimum is 2 days and up to 5 days. They can be booked in all sectors, except for snow lessons for children, which are only available in the Soldeu, El Tarter and Canillo sectors. Please note that this season Grandvalira has introduced a one-day course for beginners: this is a 3-hour course exclusively for children who are just starting out in the world of skiing and is available in the Soldeu and El Tarter sectors.

Please note that the ski pass and equipment are not included in the price of the ski schools.

Childcare on the slopes for children from 1 year old

If you come with children from 1 year old, you can continue to enjoy your favourite sport while they stay in the Grandvalira kindergartens. They are open every day of the season from 9am to 4.30pm. In the nurseries, children do not have lessons. They are indoors or playing in the snow with monitors. In Grau Roig the nursery welcomes children from 1 to 5 years old and in Canillo, El Tarter and Soldeu, there are kindergartens for children from 2 to 5 years old. Pas de la Casa, Encamp and Peretol do not have kindergartens.

Els Llacs Mountain Apartments are perfect for families.

Staying in apartaments when travelling as a family with children is ideal for everyone to have their own space and not be so tied to restaurant or breakfast buffet schedules. If you are travelling with small children it is much more convenient as they need to follow their own routines. At Els LLacs Mountain Apartments you will find many options to suit your family, with different arrangements and with capacity for up to 11 people and even connected flats. In addition, to make your arrival more comfortable, we provide you with a welcome pack with everything you need for the first breakfast and if you wish, you can make the purchase online beforehand. All advantages!

This winter come to Grandvalira to ski with your children and if you want them to improve their technique or start skiing or snowboarding you can enrol them in the schools. We can help you with the paperwork, don’t hesitate to contact us.
