Discover Grandvalira Resorts, the dream for skiers in Andorra

Anyone who has skied in Andorra knows that the experience goes beyond gliding across the snow. It means discovering landscapes, breathing the fresh air of the Pyrenees and feeling the adrenaline rush on every descent. For this reason, ski lovers are eagerly awaiting the start of the season.

To make sure you don’t miss out on any of the details, here is a preview of what awaits you at Grandvalira Resorts.

Grandvalira Resorts resorts

All these ski resorts in Andorra are united under the same brand, Grandvalira Resorts, from the 2022-23 season:
– Grandvalira
– Pal-Arinsal
– Ordino Arcalís
With around 308 skiable kilometres and more than 200 slopes of different categories – black, red, blue and green– it offers options for all levels. Every skier will find their place here. Whether you’re just starting out or experienced enough to explore the most challenging corners of each resort. In addition to alpine skiing and snowboarding, you can also enjoy other disciplines, such as ski mountaineering, freeride or freestyle, thanks to the various snowparks spread throughout the resorts.

Grandvalira, the largest resort in the Pyrenees

It is formed by a total of seven sectors: Grau Roig, Pas de la Casa, Soldeu, El Tarter, Encamp, Canillo and Peretol. The latter is the most recently incorporated and offers the closest access to Els Llacs Mountain Apartments, from the Prat de les Pedres chairlift.
Grandvalira has 215 skiable kilometres, 140 pistes and its seven sectors are connected by pistes, as long as the snow conditions allow it.
Its popularity is also due to the fact that it is a regular venue for major international events, such as the Alpine Skiing World Cup Finals, a historic landmark in Andorra. It has also hosted competitions in other disciplines, such as the World Cup Final in Kilometre Launching.

Pal Arinsal, ideal for families and bikers

Pal Arinsal has 63 kilometres of skiable slopes and two sectors, accessible by road or by the La Massana cable car, located just 6 kilometres from the centre of Andorra. Both sectors are connected by the Coll de la Botella cable car, forming a domain with a total of 47 slopes for all levels. It also offers snow activities ideal for the whole family, including options for the youngest members of the family.

SNOW & BIKE: NEW FOR 2024-25

This season, 2024-25, Pal will be launching Ski&Bike, and will allow the Bike Park to open part of its facilities also during the winter. The resort will provide 16 kilometres of circuits, with a gradient of 700 metres, for the enjoyment of MTB lovers.

Ordino Arcalís: a freeride paradise

With 30 kilometres of pistes, it is the most northerly resort in the country and offers the best snow conditions every winter. Thanks to these conditions, it is one of the best places for freeriding. This fact is reflected in its international prestige, hosting annual competitions such as the Freeride World Tour.

The three domains under the same ski pass: the Andorra Pass in Grandvalira Resorts

When you buy the Grandvalira ski pass for 2 consecutive days or more, you can also access the Ordino Arcalís and Pal Arinsal slopes. This way, you can enjoy all the variety offered by the three domains.

Skiing and much more to suit all tastes

Another of the services available at the resorts are the ski mountaineering and snowshoeing circuits.
Grandvalira Resorts is the ideal place to enjoy activities in the snow. Whether you are travelling with your family, as a couple or with friends, you will find proposals adapted to your interests. From mushing excursions (dog sledding), snowshoeing or snowmobiling, to the possibility of night-time excursions to dine in the resorts’ restaurants, which offer unique experiences to enjoy the night and the gastronomy.
In addition, the options are practically endless: tubing, igloo building, zip-lines… endless activities that you will love, whether you ski or not.

Ski lessons at Grandvalira Resorts

All resorts offer a wide variety of courses, including children’s circuits and specially designed lessons for the very young. They also have ski schools, snow gardens and nurseries, providing options for the whole family to enjoy the snow.

At Grandvalira Resorts, there is always something for everyone. Whether you’re a ski and snowboard lover, prefer a quiet excursion in the snow, or are looking for activities for the little ones such as children’s circuits, you’ll always find options tailored to your needs. puente de diciembre

Get ready to start the ski season in December

December means the start of the ski season and many people are eagerly awaiting its arrival to hit the slopes. If you also feel the need to put on your ski boots again, here are some tips to help you get organised with everything you need to make the most of your first snowy getaway!

1. Choose and book your accommodation at the foot of the slopes

One of the keys is to stay close to the resort to save time, avoid long journeys and last-minute queues. Another fundamental point is to book accommodation in advance to ensure your stay. Especially on dates as busy as the long weekend in December, when occupancy is high.

Book your accomodation in Andorra

At Els Llacs Mountain Apartments we have all the facilities: on our website you can buy the complete package of Apartment and ski pass in Grandvalira. You’ll also get an additional 10% discount, even on bookings for the long weekend in December! We have a good location in Bordes de Envalira, near the Peretol access to Grandvalira, between Soldeu and Grau Roig. For greater comfort, we offer you additional services such as ski lockers and free access to the spa, ideal for relaxing after a day of snow. Check here all the services of our apartments.

2. Have your ski equipment ready in advance

Once you’ve booked your stay, it’s time to check your ski equipment. Take note, it tends to deteriorate over time, and there’s nothing worse than arriving on the mountain and discovering it’s in poor condition.
Do a complete overhaul: check that your skis are well waxed, that your bindings are working properly and that your boots are in good condition. Check gloves, goggles, helmet and ski poles.
Another alternative available is to rent equipment, an option we also offer at Els Llacs Mountain Apartments. Write to us when you make your booking and we will advise you.

3. Make sure you have the right clothing

It’s also a good idea to try on your clothes before the long weekend in December so that you have everything ready.
Here is a basic checklist of the equipment you need:

  • Thermal under layers: choose underwear and a thermal T-shirt to keep you warm.
  • Fleece or second layer: ideal for retaining body heat without restricting movement.
  • Anorak and waterproof trousers: to resist the snow and keep you dry.
  • Essential accessories: helmet, waterproof gloves, suitable socks, neck warmer and sunglasses or goggles.

4. Keep in good physical condition

Skiing demands a lot of leg strength, so preparing your body before the season is a point you can’t overlook. You can start including leg and core strengthening exercises in your routine. This will not only help you enjoy skiing more, but also help you avoid injuries and overtiredness.

5. Consider booking ski lessons

If you’re a beginner or haven’t skied in a while, it’s a good idea to book some lessons with professional instructors. There are options for all levels and ages, from beginner courses where you’ll gain confidence with confidence to advanced classes to progress and improve your technique.
Remember that the first weekend in December and the Christmas and New Year’s Eve dates are high season and it is always best to book in advance. Els Llacs Mountain Apartments can also help you.

6. Check the forecast and the state of the slopes

Before jumping on your boards, it is important to know the state of the slopes and the weather. Grandvalira publishes daily updates on snow conditions and open slopes, which will help you plan your days better. The weather forecast is key to deciding which days are the most favourable for skiing or if you should modify your ski itinerary.

7. Plan your après-ski activities

The après-ski experience doesn’t end on the slopes: après-ski is the perfect time to enjoy with friends or family! Andorra offers endless options, such as spas, restaurants, bars, shops… Discover them here.

December is the perfect time to start the ski season. Take advantage of these tips and make sure everything is ready to enjoy an unforgettable holiday in the snow. Book your accommodation at the foot of the slopes and prepare your equipment to make the most of every minute on the mountain.
See you on the slopes!

An autumn tour to discover the cultural richness of Andorra

The autumn in Andorra is a season that offers not only spectacular, colourful landscapes, but also an opportunity to discover its history and culture. With the cooler days and the autumnal atmosphere, there is no better time to go on a museum tour. From world-class art to local history, you’ll find a variety of museums in the Principality that will make you see the country from a whole new perspective.
Best of all, you can make Els Llacs Mountain Apartments your base camp on this tour. This is where your tour of Andorra’s museums begins.

La Casa de la Vall: a must-see

History and culture are kept alive in the walls of this house museum. For a long time it was the most important house in Andorra. It was built at the end of the 16th century and until 2011 was the seat of the Consell General (the Andorran parliament).

– Discover its secrets

Today, you can visit various rooms that explain part of the history and where some of the most important decisions for the country have been taken. You can visit the Room of the Lost Steps, a noble room decorated with original murals from the 16th century. As well as the session room, the kitchen and symbolic elements such as the bell used to summon the Plenary and the Cupboard of the Seven Keys, which houses key historical documents of Andorra. The exterior is also worth a visit for its architecture and its location in the heart of the old quarter of Andorra la Vella.

Discovering Andorra’s ancient crafts

The Rossell Forge is an interactive museum to discover how iron production worked between the 17th and 19th centuries. A real forge that operated from 1842 to 1876 has been reconstructed to show the whole process through an interactive experience with audiovisuals. You will also be able to witness live the use of the hammer, a key part of the old iron production. It is located on the outskirts of La Massana, in the northern valley of Andorra.

The history of electricity in Andorra

Andorra’s energy production is closely linked to the country’s economic growth in the 1930s. The MW electricity museum explores concepts such as energy, electric current and how electricity is generated in a hydroelectric power station, as well as showing the evolution of electrification in Andorra during the 20th century. The last room offers interactive experiments to understand electrical phenomena, and exhibits the two original generators of the power station, installed in 1934.

The Carmen Thyssen Museum is a must for art lovers.

Carmen Thyssen’s prestigious private collection is on display here. Through a carefully themed line, this museum offers a unique artistic experience, located in a historic building in the heart of the country.
Even if you have already visited it, it is worth coming back, as the exhibition changes every year, always offering new and surprising works to discover. On this occasion, the exhibition ‘Sons. Musical Analogies in Painting’ explores how sound is present in painting, with a multi-sensory experience.

Andorra Museum Tour

In order to make the most of your visit to Andorra’s museums, we recommend you purchase the PassMuseu, available at any of them. This pass offers you discounts at numerous museums and monuments in the country, allowing you to enjoy a complete cultural experience.
To make your tour even more special, we have selected some of the most outstanding museums, distributed throughout the country, so that as well as exploring the culture, you will discover unique corners of Andorra.

Easy dog-friendly trails in Andorra: 3 perfect options for you and your pet

Summer is here! And it’s the perfect time for those who want to spend some quality time with their pets in the countryside.
Andorra is a great place to come and enjoy the mountains, which hide some incredible places to go with your dog. From routes for those who like to go out and test themselves on the most complicated slopes to those who prefer a more leisurely walk. Both options have one thing in common: wherever you go, you’ll enjoy the surroundings.

3 easy dog walks for everyone

We show you ways to have fun with your pet in Andorra with three easy routes so you can go whether you have a large, small or senior dog. They are ideal for enjoying nature effortlessly and ensuring your dog is comfortable and safe. Don’t leave anyone at home and experience unforgettable moments with your faithful friend in these beautiful landscapes!

Trekking to l’Estany Primer de Pessons

The first excursion is near Els Llacs Mountain Apartments, in the Grau Roig sector of Grandvalira. It is a good option for an easy hike with your dog and to discover a mountain lake located at an altitude of 2300 metres.
Duration: approximately 1.30 hours
Difficulty level: easy to moderate
Distance: 1.5 km
Start at the car park in the Cubil area, where you will find the signs that will take you through the forest to the lake. As the climb is not very difficult, you can observe nature while your dog enjoys discovering an environment different from his own. Once you reach Primer de Pessons lake, you can stop with your dog at the refuge’s restaurant. To go back down, you can go back down the same way you came up or return along the forest track. If you are up for it, a good option is to reach the other lakes of Pessons, although from here the route is somewhat harder.

Inter-parish path from Prats to Engolasters

This route is much longer, but has hardly any gradient. You will enjoy an accessible trail that has it all: Romanesque churches, breathtaking views, forest and rest points.
Duration: 4 hours
Difficulty: easy
Distance: 11.8 km
It is called inter-parish because it crosses Canillo, Encamp and Escaldes. As Els Llacs Mountain Apartments is in Canillo, we recommend you start here from the church of Sant Miquel de Prats to get to Sant Miquel d’Engolasters. Although it is not difficult at all, because you will hardly notice the 200 metres of difference in altitude, you should plan to walk 4 hours with your dog on the way there and 4 more on the way back. In addition, of course, you should bring enough water and food for everyone. In this article you will find tips for hiking with your dog in the mountains.

The Comapedrosa interpretative circuit

This circular hike is ideal for the whole family, as it is highly recommended for the youngest members of the family. It is located in the Comapedrosa Natural Park, in the parish of La Massana.
Duration: 1.30 hours
Difficulty: easy
Distance: 1.2 km
On this walk you will follow 10 panels that will help you to get to know nature at close quarters, to identify the environment and the terrain. While you follow the indications, your pet will also enjoy an outdoor excursion. It starts at the picnic area of the Pollós river and ends at the Arinsal dam.

You can come to Els Llacs Mountain Apartments with your dog

So that your holiday is 100% complete, we don’t leave anyone at home. In our holiday rentals you will find the comfort and space you need to accommodate the whole family. Discover the flat you like best and book at the best prices on our website. Don’t miss out on our discounts for early booking or for staying more than 4 nights.
