The last skiing moments of the season: ski in spring in Andorra

The ski season isn’t over yet! This year it runs until 16 April, so there’s still time to come skiing in spring. The last months of the season are characterised by higher temperatures, longer and sunnier days, so you’ll have to adapt to the conditions. To continue enjoying the slopes until the last day we give you some tips that we hope you will find useful. It is also important that you plan your getaway well and check the weather before leaving home.

How to ski in spring

To enjoy the snow in April and March you have to bear in mind that the temperatures are higher and the sunshine is more intense than in the first months of the season. As the spring season begins, the snow melt increases and the snow becomes softer. So you will have to adapt to the weather for spring skiing. The watchword is to get up early and take advantage of the early hours of the day when the snow is in the best condition. In the morning the snow is firmer and as the day progresses it becomes softer. Start on the lower slopes and those that are sunnier, and leave the higher slopes and those that get less sun for later in the day, as the snow is better preserved there.

Dress in layers for spring skiing

Even though it’s getting warmer, don’t get overconfident… remember you’re in the mountains. The weather changes frequently, the temperature varies during the day and you’re at a higher altitude. If you want to ski in spring or enjoy snow activities, it’s best to dress in layers. In the morning it is much colder, but by midday the sun is warmer. So ideally you should be able to take off pieces of clothing to avoid sweating.

– On the body

Choose a lighter outer jacket as well as a mid-layer. Zipped clothes help to ventilate and help you to last longer in them. For the close-to-body area, wear a moisture-wicking garment to avoid sweating.

– On the head and neck

Wearing a helmet is compulsory, but a hat or ski straps may not be necessary. For the neck you can wear a lighter garment that will still protect you from the cold in the early hours of the morning and that you can keep in your pocket when it gets warmer.

– Goggles

Of course, goggles are essential all season and even more so in these months when the sun reflects much more on the snow.

– Gloves

Although the thermometer starts to rise, don’t leave them at home, because they also protect you from the sun. If you prefer, you can choose thinner gloves that will make you sweat less.

Els Llacs and ski pass offer

You’ll love coming skiing in spring, and you’ll see that you’ll get a better price than at other times of the season… And even more if you take advantage of our offer with accommodation and ski pass in Grandvalira 😉. You are guaranteed a 10% discount if you book through our website.

So now that you know what it’s like to ski in spring in Andorra, all you need to do is choose your flat and book with the ski pass.

actividades après-ski

Make the most of the Easter long weekend with children

This Easter you are not going to want to miss anything that’s going on in Andorra.
During the day: you won’t run out of Grandvalira Resorts slopes skiing or snowboarding with your children, or on your own while they learn to ski. When the slopes close: the fun continues! Andorra offers a wide range of après-ski activities to suit all tastes. You can make the most of the snow from morning to night, test yourself on ice, enjoy endless afternoons in a spa with the whole family or visit the chocolate factory in La Massana.
This Easter you will spend a crazy long weekend with your children!

Snowtubbing for the first time in Pas de la Casa

On 28 January Grandvalira opened the longest snow tubing slope in Europe. It can reach 60 km/hour and has a length of 350 metres, with turns and two tunnels that go under the slope, to make the experience much more exciting. The Easter long weekend is an excellent opportunity to try it out and let off some adrenaline with the family. It is suitable for children from 6 years old. The day pass and multi-day Andorra Pass include 1 free descent per pass, as well as the NordPass from 4 days (in all modalities except for children under 6 years old).

Palau de Gel après-ski activities

Have fun on ice at the Olympic ice rink in Canillo. Challenge your children to a go-kart race on ice or put on some skates and enjoy some skating time. The rink is indoor and the Palau de Gel offers other services such as a swimming pool, climbing wall, tennis and squash courts. It is located in the village of Canillo, just 15 minutes by car from the apartaments.

Wellness and spas for children

One of the most traditional après-ski activities in Andorra is to finish in the spa after a day of skiing. Without leaving the flats you can relax in our spa (at no extra charge) and take a bath in the jacuzzi with mountain views or relax in the sauna.
You can also venture out to discover the thermal lagoons of the Caldea Thermoludic with your family. And if you go with children from 3 to 8 years old, they can access Likids, the children-only spa of the most famous thermal centre in the country.
We recommend you book in advance to make sure you get a place.

Après-ski continues in the snow

If you like to enjoy the snow from morning to night, discover the forest under the moonlight on a snowmobile. The experience takes place in the Grau Roig sector of Grandvalira, which is very close to Els Llacs Mountain Apartments. Can you imagine exploring the forest at night on a snowmobile? The activity is suitable for children and young people, although those aged 6 to 17 must be accompanied by an adult.

Visit to the chocolate factory

And if you’ve come this far, you’re in for a very sweet surprise: Xocland, the chocolate factory in La Massana. Here you will discover how the cocoa beans are processed, following the whole process, and at the end of the visit you will have the chance to taste the chocolate. There are delicacies to suit all tastes, from dark chocolate with 90% cocoa to white and milk chocolate. They also have a wide variety of products such as chocolates, bars, pralines and their speciality, xoca: a combination of various chocolates with biscuits, fruit and other ingredients.
This activity is sure to be a hit with the youngest members of the household. The chocolate factory schedules visits on Saturday afternoons.

With these après-ski activities you won’t be able to resist coming to enjoy Easter in Andorra. Book your accommodation.

Whether you’re an experienced skier and you want to improve your skills, or you’ve decided to learn to ski, Grandvalira offers different types of skiing and snowboarding courses and classes for all levels and ages.
Discover the different options in this article and make the most of your snow getaway.

Group classes to learn to ski

In Grandvalira you’ll find group classes to get you started in skiing, snowboarding or freeriding, or to improve your technique. Classes are divided into levels and are taught in up to 6 different languages, with a maximum of 12 people. Grandvalira has a large ski school with more than 600 professionals to learn to ski. Individual courses to learn to ski

If you prefer a more personalised experience, you can opt for private lessons for you and your companions (maximum 6 people). Ideally, you should all be of the same level to make the most of the course. The instructor will adapt exclusively to your level and you will be able to acquire the knowledge more quickly. You can book individual lessons whether you are a beginner or want to improve your level in skiing, snowboarding and freeriding.

Top Class to improve your skiing level

This modality is ideal for progressing as you will have an expert instructor at your disposal for 6 hours at a time who, as well as helping you to perfect your skiing, will take you to discover all the secrets of the ski resort. The service also offers correction videos and provides you with a VIP room and pick-up from your accommodation.

Ski programmes for the little ones

If you want to introduce the little ones to your favourite sport, the Grandvalira ski school offers several options so that they can have fun while they learn. To learn to ski, it offers themed circuits, courses and snow gardens. Children are grouped by levels and also by age groups. The youngest children, from 1 to 3 years old, also have their own space in the nursery where they will stay in an indoor area run by specialised resort staff.

Els Llacs + Grandvalira = super ski break

Once you’ve finished skiing, it’s time to rest. Stay overnight at Els Llacs and enjoy all the comfort of fully equipped mountain flats. In addition, you’ll have a ski storage room with camera surveillance so you don’t have to carry all your equipment back to the flat. At Els Llacs Mountain Apartments you can enjoy plenty of space whether you are travelling as a couple, with your group of friends or with your family. Our tourist flats offer options for up to 12 people.

If this season you are thinking of learning to ski in Andorra, book the Els Llacs flats with the ski pass to Grandvalira and become an experienced skier.

A giant slide located outdoors in the middle of nature awaits you. It is 555 metres down and 180 metres up. You can go down it at up to 40 km/h.

Excursions to suit all tastes

Among the most popular winter activities are trips to the snow to discover the forests and the most unusual landscapes of the seasons. Near Els Llacs Mountain Apartments, in the Grau Roig adventure centre, you’ll find snowshoeing excursions on snowy trails up to icy lakes with a guide. You can also explore the Moretó forest on a snowmobile and… why not, sign up for this adventure at night. Finally, go deep into the white landscapes enjoying an excursion on a dog sled, driving the mushing or as a passenger, an experience that will stay with you forever!

Winter activities also in Pal Arinsal

This time, head to the other valley to discover the resort of Pal Arinsal and its wide range of activities. You’ll love going sledging with your children. Pal offers two slopes with conveyor belts so you can go up comfortably and more quickly to enjoy the descent. Next to the sledging track you will find another of the most popular activities: the Big Airbag. You can test yourself by jumping from 3 different heights on a giant mattress. Finally, if you go with children aged 14 and over, you can try the Moonbikes and go on an excursion on these electric motorbikes that offer a new way of enjoying winter activities.

What’s coming up: Snowtubbing by DOTS in Pas de la Casa

This season will see the premiere of this activity where fun and laughter are guaranteed. Snowtubbing will be located in Pas de la Casa where you will be able to slide along 350 metres and where you will be able to reach 60 km/h (it will be the longest tubing slope in Europe). Discover what’s new in Grandvalira for the 2022-23 season

The slogan “What winter do you want to experience?” launches Grandvalira Resorts’ new winter season. In today’s post, we tell you all the news so that you’ll have everything ready for 2 December.

Grandvalira Resorts and the unique Andorra Pass ski pass

Grandvalira Resorts is born, a new brand that brings together all the resorts in the country: Grandvalira, Pal Arinsal and Ordino Arcalís. However, each of them retains its own features and distinguishing characteristics. With the new union, from this season onwards you will be able to ski all the slopes with a single ski pass. The Andorra Pass is the season ski pass to ski the more than 300 kilometres of Andorran slopes, and you can also do so with the multi-day ski pass.

New snow activities coming up

Grandvalira is planning new activities, one of which will be the creation of a giant ice and snow slide down which large doughnuts will slide. For the moment, the opening date has not been confirmed, although we already know the location, which will be in the Les Abelletes area in the Pas de la Casa sector. It will surely be a very fun activity, as we are used to from the resort.

Sports competitions calendar

Make a note of these dates and experience first-hand the great sporting events that will take place in Grandvalira during the 2022-23 winter season.

– Alpine skiing World Cup Finals

The Avet slopes in the Soldeu sector and Àliga in the El Tarter sector will host the finals of the men’s and women’s alpine skiing World Cup for the second time in their history. It will take place from 13 to 19 March 2022, just 5 minutes by car from the flats.

– KTM Cup Finals

The fastest skiers in the world will meet on the Riberal de Grau Roig piste on 29 and 30 March. Grandvalira has already hosted several competitions of this type and in 2017 the piste record was reached with 199.56 kilometres per hour.

– Freeride World Tour

Ordino Arcalís will once again host a Freeride competition from 30 January to 5 February in both men’s and women’s skiing and snowboarding. The junior competition will take place on the 5th and 6th.

Electronic music festival

Another event that could take place this winter on the Grandvalira snowfields is an electronic music festival coinciding with the dates of the Alpine skiing World Cup finals. We are awaiting confirmation of the event, but if there is a rumor there must be something to it.

Green light label: a commitment to renewable energies

The management company of the Soldeu and El Tarter sectors has been the first in the country to receive the “Llum Verda” (green light) seal awarded by the Andorran electricity company FEDA (Forces Electriques d’Andorra). With this certificate, the Soldeu and El Tarter sectors guarantee that the energy they consume is 100% of renewable origin.

Say goodbye to the ski season in Grandvalira

After the last snowfalls, it’s time to prepare a new ski getaway. Winter is over, but it’s not yet time to put the boards away. Until 18 April, there’s still time to come skiing and stay in our flats in front of Grandvalira, where you’ll find all the comforts you need to enjoy the snow.

Get ready to have a great time!

Spring skiing

After the cold winter, spring comes with more pleasant temperatures, longer days and more hours of natural light. Together with the snowfalls at the beginning of April, which leave good powder snow conditions, this year you can make the most of every last day on the ski slopes in Andorra.

In the morning, ski or snowboard on the good early morning snow, and at midday it’s time for terracing! Stop off at one of the restaurants for a bite to eat and recover your strength with vitamin D. Don’t forget your sun cream!

Grandvalira closes all its ski sectors on 18 April, but if you’re really looking forward to the snow, you can ski until 24 April in Ordino-Arcalís, located in the other valley.

Staying in flats in front of Grandvalira

Choose the best accommodation to make the most of your ski break or holiday, book close to the slopes and save time!

Els Llacs Mountain Apartments offer you a very good location right in front of one of the accesses to the resort through the Peretol sector, from where you can take the Pla de les Pedres chairlift to get to the slopes. If you prefer, you can also use our free shuttle service to Grau Roig. We also have a free ski locker at your disposal.

Our flats in Grandvalira are very well equipped and have everything you need whether you come with friends, as a couple or with friends, even a spa! When you come back from skiing you can recover your strength in the indoor jacuzzi, hammam or sauna. Or watch the sun go down from the outdoor jacuzzi.

Enjoy the best après-ski

Until the end of the season you can do a host of activities in Andorra after skiing.

In the resort itself, in the Pas de la Casa sector, once a week one of its slopes opens until 9 pm so you can ski under the stars. In Soldeu, Grandvalira offers an irresistible family activity: tobogganing from the top of the slopes to the village. In the Peretol sector, right in front of Els Llacs Mountain Apartments, you will find the only snowpark that opens until 21h, ideal for practising your jumps and pirouettes until nightfall. All these proposals are relatively close to our flats in Grandvalira.

Moreover, in Andorra you will find many more options to complete your days in the snow. Like gastronomic plans for all tastes, ending the day in the thermal waters of Caldea or shopping in the different shopping centres of the country.

Say goodbye to the ski season in the best way: making the most of the powder snow from the last snowfalls. Book one of our flats in Grandvalira with ski pass and don’t miss out on this experience.

Remember that, although Grandvalira closes in April, we are still open all year round. 😉

5 Easter plans to enjoy with your family in Andorra

We’re already looking forward to the Easter long weekend and we’re sure you are too. There are 4 days off to disconnect from routine and enjoy family experiences. And what better way to make the most of them than in the snow and end the ski season in style.

We have 5 fun snow activities for you that you will love to do with your family and that you can complement perfectly with your ski day on the slopes.

1. Become an igloo builder

Have you ever wondered how igloos are made?

During the whole season, including Easter, Grandvalira offers you an ideal activity for families where, young and old, you will work as a team to build an igloo. You will be taught the different techniques to adapt them to the state of the snow and you will build your own igloo which you will be able to visit inside and feel as if you were in the North Pole. This proposal is available very close to Els Llacs Mountain Apartments in the Grau Roig activity centre.

2. Have fun on the Magic Gliss

The Magic Gliss is a giant slide located in the Family Park in the Canillo sector of Grandvalira. With a 555-metre descent and 180 metres of ascent, it can reach speeds of up to 40 km/h. If you want to make it even more amazing, try it with virtual reality goggles. As well as enjoying the ride, you’ll be able to see the recreation of typical Andorran animals and the mythological Tamarros. Children will have a great time, but adults will also be surprised.

3. Enjoy new experiences at Easter

Without leaving the Family Park in Canillo, don’t miss the chance to discover the snowy landscapes of Grandvalira from a bird’s eye view as you fly over the Forn Lake. Get your adrenaline pumping on the zip line, where you can slide sitting down, stretched out or in tandem with your child. The route is 550 metres long, at a height of 40 metres and can reach 80 km/h.

Spending the day at the Family Park is also a good option as it has a wide range of activities, especially for children, and a restaurant where you can stop for lunch to recharge your batteries. Access is via the cable car from the village of Canillo.

4. Sledging down the Soldeu slopes

The Snake Gliss is another activity worth trying at least once in your life. You will slide down on an articulated sledge guided by a monitor, from El Pla de Espiolets to the village of Soldeu, crossing the slopes of Astoret, Os and Bosc Fosc. Best of all: it takes place when the resort is closed, from 17:30 onwards. The Easter long weekend is a good time to do this snow activity as the days are longer and we can enjoy more daylight hours.

5. Get your adrenaline pumping with a snowmobile excursion.

This activity is a classic and you may even have already done it. In any case, you’ll never get tired of going through the forests of Grandvalira on a snowmobile.
