Snow activities to enjoy the winter in Grandvalira

Write down the following snow activities you can do in Grandvalira in winter on your wish list. Some of them are very close to Els Llacs Mountain Apartments and in the other sectors of the ski resort. One thing is for sure: you’ll have just as much fun as skiing and you’ll be able to combine them with your favourite sport. What’s more, most of them can be done with your family, friends or partner… and all season long.

You’ll love them!

Mushing: one of the most popular snow activities of the year

If you haven’t yet had the experience, make the most of this season to do it. Rediscover spectacular landscapes in Grandvalira through routes through the forest while comfortably seated on a sled pulled by dogs. The sledge is for two people and you can choose from 2, 3 or 5 kilometre excursions. And you can even end up driving along with the musher (the sledge guide). You can choose the adventure circuits in Grau Roig, the sector of Grandvalira that is closest to the flats, or more family itineraries to do with children from 3 years old in El Tarter (here the sledges are for up to 4 people).

Book mushing with Els Llacs Mountain Apartments on our website and get a 10% early booking discount and 10% discount for booking on the website.

Explore the forests of Grandvalira on snowshoes

There are a large number of signposted snowshoe itineraries outside the traditional ski slope circuits. You will go through the woods on these routes, which this year have been completed with 5 routes that allow you to do a circular route of 23 kilometres and 850 metres of vertical drop. In the Grau Roig, Encamp and Pas de la Casa sectors of Grandvalira, you’ll find routes for all levels.

Take advantage of our offer of accommodation and 2-hour snowshoeing excursion and get a 10% discount for early booking and another 10% discount for booking through our website.

Snowmobiling: also at night

Explore the snowy landscapes on a snowmobile in the snowy forests of Grau Roig, together with a guide. The excursions are from 30 minutes to 1 hour. This is one of the snow activities that you can do with children from 6 years old, but they must be on a two-seater motorbike and accompanied by an adult.

From this winter onwards, experience a snowmobile excursion at night in Grau Roig or a change of scenery in the Pas de la Casa sector. You’ll have a great time!

Skiing before the rest is a real pleasure

Grandvalira offers you the “First Snow”, an activity that will allow you to experience first-hand the sensation of skiing before anyone else. You’ll have the slopes all to yourself. You’ll just have to get up a little earlier, as the meeting point is at 8am, in the El Tarter sector. As a reward, it also includes breakfast.  It takes place on Wednesdays and Saturdays throughout the season, conditions permitting. You’ll want to come again!

Après-ski… skiing

And if you start the day skiing before the others, you can also end it skiing until the last minute. The only slope that is open for skiing when the rest are closed is La Solana /Tubs, in the Pas de la Casa sector. You can ski from 17h30 to 20h00 under the lights of the slope that opens on Thursdays and Saturdays. Moreover, it is included in the price of the ski pass, whether it is a day, multi-day or season ski pass.

On our website you will find offers with ski pass to Grandvalira, snowshoeing or mushing excursion and nights in the holiday flats Els Llacs. For the rest of the snow activities we can inform you about prices and availability and make the booking when you contact us. You just worry about coming, we’ll take care of the rest 😉.

Magical places to walk with your dog in winter in Andorra

Don’t let the cold stop you! Come to Andorra with your pets in winter too. Enjoy long walks in the countryside amidst snowy landscapes in a mountain setting or discover the country at Christmas. In this article we’ll reveal some incredible places to walk in Andorra with your dog that you may not have known about, or to rediscover them during these special dates.

An urban Christmas walk

We take you to the city centre to stroll among the decorations and lights typical of this time of year. It starts in Escaldes and ends in the historic centre of Andorra la Vella. Make the most of the opportunity to take a stroll around the Christmas market to buy the latest gifts or get a first-hand look at the country’s local products.

Along this route there are countless places where you can stop with your pet and take fun photos. With the illuminated letters of Andorra la Vella by the river or the 3 giant decorated Christmas trees. You can do this tour in the afternoon or late at night if you prefer to take a more leisurely stroll with your dog.

In this article we tell you what you need to bring your pet to Andorra and give you some tips for travelling with it by car.

The Ordino Iron Route

To do this trail you will have to go to the other valley, to the parish of Ordino. It is a route of just over 4 km, accessible and suitable for the whole family, where you can walk along a mountain path with your dog. It is ideal because it combines nature and culture and takes you on a journey through one of the most important economic activities for Andorra in the past, metallurgy. Along the route you’ll see sculptures that refer to this industry while your four-legged friend will have a great time in contact with nature.

In winter, and especially when you take your dog to the snow, you should bear in mind a series of recommendations that we leave you with in this article.

Visit Canillo and its life-size Nativity Scene

Near the flats you will find the village of Canillo, which during the Christmas period becomes the scene of a giant nativity scene. Take the opportunity to take a nice walk with your pet while you have fun looking for the more than 200 life-size figures that represent different scenes of the Nativity Scene, such as the nativity, the shepherds, the peasants with their animals or the Three Wise Men.

Strolling around the Engolasters lake and the surrounding area

Finally, another proposal in nature also accessible in winter: the Engolasters lake. An easy route to enjoy with the whole family and your pet. It is ideal for a walk around the lake and enjoy a typical mountain and snow landscape.

At Els Llacs Mountain Apartments you will find the comfort and space you need to stay with your family and friends. Our location is unbeatable: close to the Grandvalira ski slopes and away from all the hustle and bustle.

We will be delighted to welcome you and your four-legged friend.

We only ask you to respect some small rules of coexistence that you can read here.

Make the most of the opening of the season to ski in Grandvalira

This season is going to be very special: the slopes will be full of skiers once again. Don’t get left behind and be among the first to hit the snow for the December long weekend. Start preparing your equipment and mark the days until the 3rd of December, the date announced by Grandvalira for its opening.

Back to skiing in Grandvalira in December

The start of the season is here and the most eagerly awaited for snow lovers who, like you, were unable to ski last year as a precautionary measure against COVID-19. However, this year will be different and if the situation does not worsen, everything points to the fact that we will be able to ski again with more or less normality.

Discover our offers with ski pass in Grandvalira and accommodation in Els Llacs Mountain Apartments. The ski pass gives you access to all the Grandvalira sectors that are connected by ski lifts and chairlifts, and you will be able to access from any of them.

New for the 2021-22 season, with the same pass, you can also ski the Ordino-Arcalís slopes, located in the northern valley of the country.

Closer access to the slopes

For the last two seasons, Grandvalira has had a new sector giving access to the domain: the Peretol, located just opposite Els Llacs Mountain Apartments. For skiers’ convenience, the resort has a free shuttle service from 9am to 5pm for all skiers staying at Bordes d’Envalira.

From Peretol you will get to the slopes more quickly and you won’t have to go to Grau Roig or Soldeu if you don’t want to. The Pla de les Pedres chairlift, which has become the longest in Andorra, will take you straight to Funicamp!

Also, if you are a freerider, you can’t miss the snowpark located in this sector, which you can enjoy under the stars as it is open from 15h to 21h.

We look forward to seeing you again for the long weekend in December!

Our flats are known to be very spacious (as well as comfortable), but you don’t need to take all your ski equipment with you. To make it easier for you and to avoid you having to carry everything to the flat, we have a ski storage room with camera surveillance, where you can leave your equipment until the next day. You can also use our transfer service to take you to and from the slopes, so that you don’t have to touch the car once it’s parked in the car park. If you prefer, you can also travel light and let experts advise you on how to rent and buy what you need in the Shusski ski equipment shop located in our hotel Park Piolets in Soldeu.

This December, we are waiting for you with everything ready for you to enjoy a winter like in the past.

Enjoy the snow with your pet in Andorra

This winter, don’t leave anyone at home and enjoy the holidays with all the members of the family. During the ski season, one of the most fun activities you can do in Andorra with your dog is to go for a walk in the snow. He’ll be super happy jumping and running around in the snowy meadows and forests. What’s more, if you’re travelling with children, it’s an excellent outdoor après-ski activity to enjoy with the whole family when you stay at Els Llacs Mountain Apartments.

An ideal location and environment for pets

“Els Llacs” holiday flats are surrounded by mountains and nature, in Bordes de Envarlia, far from the centre and just 2 km from the access to the Soldeu sector of Grandvalira.

The location is perfect for skiing and for coming to Andorra with your dog. At the foot of the building you will find a large meadow where you can go for a quiet walk with your pet or go for a run. In winter, when it’s snowy, it’s great for him to discover the snow and play with it, he’ll have a great time! And you can take lots of funny photos of him too. Dogs generally like snow experiences as it’s something different and out of the ordinary.

Near the appartments, there is a very easy snowshoeing path that goes from El Peretol to the entrance of Soldeu, which you can also take the opportunity to do with your four-legged friend. Along the way, you will discover the impressive landscape that surrounds our accommodation, you will pass through a stretch of forest and follow the course of the river. An ideal occasion to exercise and enjoy it together with your pet.

Recommendations for taking your dog to the snow

Here are a few tips to make your dog’s experience in the snow an incredible one and to ensure he has a great time.

– Protect him from the cold: you will have to keep your dog warm if he is a small breed or short-haired, or if he is still a puppy. If necessary, shorten the walks so that he doesn’t get so cold.

– Take care of their paws: their paw pads are a sensitive part of the body and it is advisable to protect them when they are not used to contact with snow to avoid burns.

– Take water with you so that he drinks and does not eat snow.

– Keep an eye on him at all times: don’t let him go too far away from you, as he can get confused and lost in new terrain.

With these tips, going out in the snow with your four-legged friend will be even safer.

The Andorra Shopping Festival is back

The All Saints’ Day bank holiday also brings the Andorra Shopping Festival, with entertainment and concerts in the streets. Shops join in the festivities with discounts, special promotions and raffles. The whole family is welcome to come and have a great time in the main shopping areas of the capital and Escaldes. It’s the ideal place to do your first Christmas shopping, to renew your wardrobe or to find the latest in technology at the best prices.

Grandvalira has announced that it will open the slopes on 3 December. So the All Saints’ Day long weekend is a good time to get ready to start the winter season in style. Before leaving home, check your ski equipment: try on your clothes (including thermals), check your boots, boards, poles, ski goggles, helmet and gloves. So when you come to Andorra you will know exactly what you need to replace or in case you feel like treating yourself. In autumn, the brands start to bring their new products, which you can buy in sports and specialised shops. If you are looking for cheaper options you will find them in the outlets. Remember that apart from going down to the centre, you can also shop in Pas de la Casa, which is closer to Els Llacs Moutain Apartments.

Llacs

An alternative autumn getaway in Andorra

Autumn is here! Still no plans to enjoy a well-deserved getaway? We suggest an alternative route around Andorra, ideal for getting away from the crowds and discovering the lesser-known corners of our 7 parishes.

1. The hidden secrets of Canillo

The parish of Canillo is where the Els Llacs tourist flats are located. The first route is to discover the Toll Bullidor, a natural waterfall near Meritxell, along an easily accessible hiking route. Another interesting place to discover during an autumn long weekend is the motorbike museum, located in the Canillo cable car. It has a permanent exhibition of more than 120 pieces, some of which are unique and the oldest is from 1896. Without a doubt, two activities you can do with your children.

2. Shopping in Encamp

We continue on to the next parish: Encamp. Here we suggest you go shopping in Pas de la Casa. If you don’t know it because you always stay in the centre, the location of our holiday flats is a good excuse to visit this village on the border with France. It is closer than Escaldes and Andorra la Vella and it is an open-air shopping centre with all the products you can imagine at the foot of the slopes. What’s more, if you access Pas de la Casa via the Envalira pass, you’ll enjoy incredible views and landscapes.

3. Ordino in autumn is even more beautiful

You probably already know the Ordino iron route, but we can’t fail to recommend it because it is especially beautiful in autumn. In addition to the sculptures, the borda and the Romanesque bridge along the route, it’s worth it for the scenery, from where you can admire the changing colours of the season to perfection. The itinerary is very accessible, so set aside an afternoon to visit it.

4. A very sweet visit to La Massana

In La Massana you will find the only chocolate factory in Andorra: Xocland, where this delicious food is produced and processed in the factory located in the centre of the village. This is a visit not to be missed for lovers of chocolate in all its forms, as you’ll see the entire production process from bean to finished product up close. Of course, it is also a great place to go with the little ones in the house.

5. Autumn is ideal for rediscovering the capital city

We are now heading down towards the central parishes of the Principality. We suggest a very simple panoramic route on the Rec del Solà, an itinerary at the foot of the Carroi peak from where you can see the whole of Andorra la Vella and Escaldes-Engordany. At the end of the route you can go down to the historic centre of the capital to have a drink and get your strength back.

6. Sant Julià de Lòria, the lesser-known one

In this parish you will find the Juberri gardens, a peculiar space where you will see a multitude of giant sculptures. Mostly of animals, but you will also see fountains and miniature models of Romanesque churches in the country. It is very well kept and the views over the valley are spectacular.

7. The Escaldes hot springs

We’re sure you’ve heard of Caldea many times: but do you know about its Private Spa? It is a space for private use with a maximum capacity for 4 people with a jacuzzi, sauna, contrast showers and relaxation areas, where you can also enjoy a couple’s massage. This plan is only for couples and we recommend that you make a reservation beforehand. These different and original things to do in Andorra in autumn are ideal to combine with the peace and quiet of staying at Els Llacs Mountain Apartments. Check the flat you like the most and book it with the 3×2 offer, which is also available for the long weekends in October, you stay 3 nights and only pay for 2!

It’s the perfect plan for a family day out!

This plan is for you if you come during the first days of September and on weekends until the long weekend of 12 October.

Take advantage of the 3×2 offer to look for mushrooms and cook them in the apartament.

The mountain is to be enjoyed all year round and with a different activity in each season. In autumn, mushrooms come out, a very popular and prized delicacy for many recipes and with many ways of tasting them. Make the most of being in an tourist accommodation to continue the experience by cooking them to your liking and enjoying them with your travel companions. Some of the mushrooms that come out in Andorra in autumn are chanterelles, ceps, perrochicos and senderuelas. However, remember that if you don’t know them or don’t know them, it’s best not to pick them to avoid poisoning. In this article we told you about 5 benefits of going mushroom hunting.

Enjoy the best autumn gastronomy

The best place to discover Andorran cuisine is in a borda. These are typical Andorran buildings where once livestock was kept and have now been turned into restaurants. Here you can savour typical dishes made with seasonal products. In autumn, they serve stews based on wild boar, hare or game meat, perfectly accompanied by mushrooms and boletus. Mountain rice dishes, stews or creams, ideal for warming up and… and don’t miss the grilled meat!

Renew and prepare your skiing equipment

As winter approaches, it’s time to check your ski and snowboards and other equipment. Take advantage of the 3×2 offer to buy what you’re missing and catch up on the season’s trends. Take a stroll through the shopping areas of Andorra, Escaldes and Pas de la Casa looking for new products in the sports shops and also in the outlets.

Places in Andorra where to combat high temperatures

In this article we’ll give you some ideas that you’ll only find in Andorra to cool off and combat the high temperatures in August. Although the heatwave is over, you can still feel the typical heat of these dates, so in case another one comes back, we leave you with a list of the most refreshing plans so you won’t be caught unawares. Our flats with spa are one of the options we propose, but of course there are many more, so read on to discover them all.

  1. Apartments with spa to refresh you in summer

Our apartaments have the particularity that they have a wide variety of services that you can take advantage of during your stay in Andorra. One of them is the spa with mountain views, open all day long so you can enjoy it whenever you want. It has an outdoor and indoor jacuzzi, sauna, solarium and fitness room. As it is located in the same building, you won’t even have to leave the hotel to get your strength back after a day of hiking in the mountains or shopping in the city. It is also free of charge. If you wish, you can also book a treatment on request, with the possibility of having it done directly in your flat. We use products that take care of you and the environment.

  1. The Park Spa Mountain Wellness Club

The Park Piolets hotel is in Soldeu, just 5 minutes away by car, and belongs to the same group as Els Llacs Mountain Apartments. It is a good proposal to take a morning or afternoon to relax and visit the hotel’s mountain spa. You’ll find a large water area with a heated pool with massage jets, sauna, hammam, and indoor and outdoor jacuzzi. From here you will also enjoy incredible views of the hotel’s natural surroundings and the Grandvalira slopes. The spa offers different schedules to enhance your experience depending on whether you come with your family or prefer to spend time as a couple. Discover its extensive menu of treatments and book a relaxing or beauty treatment with natural cosmetic products. After the spa, stop by the Green Salon hair and beauty salon for a relooking or a manicure and pedicure. Check out the full range of services offered by the Park Piolets hotel for guests of Els Llacs Mountain Apartments.

  1. Caldea, an urban thermal spa

Although Caldea is a thermal spa, there is also cold water for you to feel the temperature contrasts, as in the Indo-Roman baths or the Icelandic bath.  But there are also outdoor lagoons where you can sunbathe and bathe in the outdoor lagoons. You just have to choose whether you want to bathe in Inúu (which is for over 16s) or in the Thermoludic, Caldea’s largest spa where you can go with children from 5 years old. If you go with children from 3 years old, they can also swim in the Likids children’s spa. If you wish to make a reservation at Caldea, do not hesitate to contact us and we will arrange it for you.

  1. The lakes of Andorra

For the last refreshing summer plan, we suggest a hiking route to discover one of the 100 lakes in Andorra. When you finish the route, there’s nothing more satisfying than putting your feet in the water to cool off. Although it is not an experience for everyone as the water is freezing, even in August, and not all the lakes are suitable for swimming. If you have not been able to swim in the lake, remember that you will be able to do so when you arrive at our flats with spa.

These are our refreshing plans for the summer and you still have time to come and try them all. To do so is very simple: you just have to enter our website, enter the dates you want to come and book the type of flat you like the most. Does this plan sound good to you?

Discover 3 hiking routes in Andorra

Make the most of your summer holidays in Andorra. Very close to the Els Llacs Mountain Apartments you have an endless number of routes to enjoy hiking. Some are easier and others not so easy… but there are options for all levels, to do with children or for the more experienced hikers.  One thing is clear, you will discover the exuberant nature of the Andorran mountains and breathe fresh air while you exercise. So, for you to have a great time this summer, here are 3 hiking routes in Andorra. And as an extra, 1 cycling route, for those of you who love cycling.

A fun route for the whole family

We start with a very picturesque hiking track in Andorra, close to the flats and ideal to do with children: the Gall path. You can start in Canillo, at the Telecabina car park, or in the opposite direction from Soldeu. The itinerary is signposted and there are signs explaining the fauna and flora that you will come across, as well as the views. The path runs parallel to main road 2, so you can take it or leave it at various points. It also has several bridges (one of them Tibetan), a tunnel and a group of bordas (typical Andorran houses), elements that enrich the route. It owes its name to the fact that it is the habitat of capercaillies; in fact, the signposts are made of wood and marked with a red cockerel. It is a fun and accessible route for children.

Discovering the new Tristaina solar viewpoint

This summer Andorra has opened a new viewpoint in Arcalís. What makes it so special is its originality, as it is a circular structure on top of the Peyreguils peak at 2,701 metres. It is also a sundial in homage to the sundial mountain of Arcalís. From here the views are impressive over the Tristaina lakes, the rest of the peaks and the whole valley.

The excursion on foot (about 15 minutes) is well worth it, for the scenery and the contact with nature. But also to put the icing on the cake at the end of the walking route in Andorra by being able to contemplate the landscape from the new viewpoint. To get there you have to go to the Ordino-Arcalís resort. The route starts at the Coma car park near the chairlift, heading towards Creussans lake and continues to Creussans pass, ending at Peyreguils peak. If you wish, you can go up by cable car and chairlift (the ride takes 5 and 15 minutes respectively), finishing with a walk of another 15 minutes.

High altitude trekking route in Andorra

Finally, we leave you with a more difficult route that will take you to the highest peak in the Principality: Comapedrosa, at 2942 metres. The route requires a good physical preparation as it covers 14 kilometres (outward and return), with a difference in altitude of 1,300 metres and some more complicated sections. The ascent starts in Arinsal, crossing the Comapedrosa Valleys nature reserve, a protected natural area since 2006. Along the way you will be able to appreciate the changes in vegetation, passing through red and black pine forests, meadows and some lakes.
